Post by: JDeschambault on April 03, 2007, 10:33:13 PM
:'( Every time i Look at a ciiruit board like ... A Mini-ITX iBase 890c... I have no clue what i am looking at. Of course i can Pick out the processor and the Rom, But it doesnt make sense of it. If any one can refer me to a book that will explain more then jsut the part for me, i could really use the info. I am moving from the simiple stuff to a larger beast... and i am planning to run it with linux. I dont want to just do it i want to Understand it as well. Thanks  8)

A good book that covers basics, analog, digital, filtering, timing, voltage regulation, and motor/servo/stepper control is Practical Electronics for Inventors by Paul Scherz.

Look for part numbers.  Then input the part number to digikey.com and read the datasheet.  It will give you an idea of what the parts are.  Some parts don't have clearly-defined markings though.  But you can usually tell from the schematic of the board, if it's available, or by comparing with other pictures.  If you want to increase your understanding of what parts look like, you could try searching for them in google images.
