NXT Programming
« on: August 26, 2010, 08:24:41 PM »
Is there any type of programming similar to this that I could use on a roboduino? I'm not very good with programming, so I was wodering if I could do something simple like this. If possible, a copy over to a roboduiono version would be nice. Also, can you get clear HDPE?

Thanks in advance.

NXT programming is a modified version of LabView, a very proprietary and expensive programming language/suite. They do have there own line of LabView powered robots, but they are also very expensive. (Starter kit is $2k)

So i guess the first answer is no, I don't know of any block based languages that would work on a roboduino. It's not hard to switch to a text based programming language. I'd suggest you give C a try in the Arduino environment.

Don't know if there is clear HDPE. Did you try googling it?

I know this is kinda off my original idea, but how much can you do with a NXT robot. I've never built a robot, this seemed like a good idea. I just don't want to limit myself. I would like to note that I like the simple, stupid robots rather than super smart ones. I like the idea of a bunch of small robots working together. Also, is there anywhere where I can get NXT parts cheap If I go this route.

Thanks, I know I never shut up.

You can do lots with Lego mindstorms NXT.
If you want cheap parts search eBay.

Thanks voyager. I've looked at theNXTstep before. A couple more questions though.
How strong are the servos?
What other kits/parts are compatible with it?
And can I get more than just the official Lego sensors?

The servos are pretty strong, with a full battery, at full speed they resist my hand gripping the orange wheel bit.
Actually my hand slips.
If you need more motors, there is a multiplexer around for RCX motors.

Mindstorms is compatible with any other LEGO kit, thats the way of LEGO.
And yes you can get other sensors as well
check out

they have some pretty cool stuff.
You can make your own sensors too

Check out the "hardwre developer kit" available for free from the mindstorms site!
you'll find it in the tech support section
