Would these motors (located in the following link) be practical for a robot that uses tank type treads? It has to have enough power to get over rubble, stairs, etc.

It could with the appropriate speed reduction but would really depend on the weight of the Tank Robot, the low and top speed required and the steepest grade it needs to climb.
With more info I can not really say if this motor is practical for your application.

The top speed could range from 8-10 mph. What I really want though is plenty of torque. The steepest incline would probably be around 75 degrees.

Also, the robot will weigh 70-80 lbs.

I think that with a little gearing down, they would be quite good.....but.....can they be run backwards?? And.....
cannot be used mounted in reverse in a dual motor configuration.
...unless you plan to loose the one way clutch on the sprocket mount, and use your own fixed sprocket... ;)

This motor says its capable of rotating clockwise or counter-clockwise. This would solve my problem, right? Will 2 24 v 400 watt motors be capable of providing with A LOT of torque and will it be capable of going 8 mph?

They would solve the problem nicely, but you must gear them down to get manageable speeds, and the desired torque! ;)
