AI-
Just wondering if you have any updates for us?
I'm just joining this board and am really interested in your project. Although I do no wish to take it as far as you have, I also would like to program an AI, and have that on a little mobile platform that would follow me around the house. Almost like a robotic dog that could talk. But I need to do a lot more research on prgramming before i can get to that point.

Very Impressive work. I enjoyed reading this really long thread. I will say this that your android is getting really close to the uncanny valley. I havn't seen the videos yet ( at work and youtube is block) but I will watch them when I get back. The uncanny valley for those unfamiliar is where a robot gets so close to looking like a human that physically they look the real but there are slight human qualities that make them seem eerily unreal and unsettling to people. From what I read this is more pronounce in the US then in some countries like Japan. But great work!

Hi Ai-bot

So amaaaazing for such a one-maned project.

Just curious if you don't mind. It rather rare to find a Japanese with a Vietnamese name, like Trung Le. Is it just a coincidence ?

Yeah, a combination of an sensitive area such as sexual harassment of robots, and a lot of confused teenagers should result in... hilarious!

Anyway, i love this project and it's really great that he brings up this topic. I bet it will be a problem in the future, when our androids gets very, very alike us.

There are a couple of new movies too at his website (Yay! He was on the news!): http://www.projectaiko.com/

Hi all.

Thank for the comments, I wasn't able to do all the demo I had in mind.
At the international Center during the demo, I had a heart attack, and they have to ambulance me to the hospital.
At the science center, which I just got out of the hospital 2 days before. I was under heavy medication.
I threw-up 8 times at the science center.  As a result for both shows, I did the min. demostrations.
I did not video tape or take much pictures. I think some TV stations were there...they may have more footage.

Testing Aiko in a public place is a lot of different than inside your home.
I take note of the bugs, I will fix that when I feel better. ;)

For the Global News it was 2.5 hours interview, they have aiko keep reading the paper as an anchor woman...
All that works, but they cuts and re-edit the news to be 3 minutes.

The best part when the reporter ask.
"Aiko, why do you think you will be a good reporter"

Aiko replied "I work for free, and I don:t need any break time"

They cut that part out.....
oh well...

It was good experience for me, and I had fun (except for the part they were carry me out into the ambulance)

In case I haven:t.
Thank Steve from Bug-n-Bot for setting me up at the Canada Robo Game
Also, it was nice chatting with some of the Bugfest club members again.

And Ted at the hobbyshow.

Regards,

I believe this is all the more reason for you to put together some documentation.  Like you said before, "my work dies with me", but why let it?  You could record all of the achievements you made so that other people can expand on what you have done!  And did you find a sponsor?  I found you didn't mention anything about it but now Aiko is Canadian?  Keep up the good work!

Your bot got mentioned in my school's newspaper a week or so ago (University of Michigan; The Michigan Daily).

Quote
YouTube Video of the Week
Fembot fatale

Le Trung has been building robots as a "hobby" since he was 4. But it's doubtful that anything he's created to date is as creepy as his android, or "fembot," Aiko.

The video features Trung introducing the fembot he had built in his basement at the Ontario Science Center on Nov. 10.

In the video, Trung interacts with his self-created she-servant, which looks professional, but also deeply disturbing. He grabs and twists her forearm, proving Aiko's ability to feel pain. He then proceeds to touch her in inappropriate places and receives a literal slap to the face from his fake woman.

Not only does Aiko have sensory skills but apparently she was programmed with an attitude as well.

Although the video is a testament to developing technology, viewers can't help feeling uneasy when Aiko says "I don't want to do this anymore."

Trung says in the video that he had to prove to companies that Aiko was real by presenting her in person, but something tells us that after they see the fembot, people might not want her to be a reality.

Hi

Sorry, I have been busy lately.
I finally finish the objective recognition the way I want it.
The 3-d math algorithm is still a bit slow, or I need a faster processor.

Aiko can now recognize Medicines, including sharp object such as toy figures.
So it doesn't matter if you put upside down, any directional, Aiko still know that it
is the same objects.

Hopefully, this weekend I will output Aiko internal software on a 43" TV so that people
can see how the BRAINS software works.

That is amazing  AI- BOT!!!!   :o

Are you considering making Aiko open-source? Please ....
P.S. Even if there is no comments , i'm sure some people on the forum will add comments and decipher your code.

Keep up the nice work

Hi all,
After watching the demo earlier in this topic, I found something that I found was not very human about Aiko... I noticed that when you tapped her on the shoulder, she turned her head in that direction and then right back forward and THEN asked a question... what if you had her turn her head and then search for someone in that direction and, for instance, if she sees someone, say "yes?", and if she doesn't, say "who's there?".  It just didn't seem very natural for someone to be tapped on the shoulder, glance in that direction, and then look straight forward to ask a question.

If I ask this question and somebody else has already, please forgive me for not reading all 4 pages of this post.

Aiko is able to classify a glass of orange juice from the video I saw. And so I want to know how much processing was involved in getting her to do it? Also I wanted to know if your code is easily extensible to get her to classify a similar object such as a mug with hot - cocoa, tea, or coffee in it?
Would it require tons more programming to accomplish it?

Thanks,

Dear Mr AI Bot

I have read your messages and am very impressed. I had some trouble while reading. I am new to hypertext so it may be my fault. I started to read the same messages over and over even when I went to the next page. Still, I tried to read everything.

I have one question I did not see posted. What are you doing for your power source? I have a project not entirely unlike Aiko. However, I can never find room to store her batteries without making her unsightly. Did you put them under the wheel chair by chance?

Thank you,
Tater Totco

Tater your project sounds very interesting !

Can you make a separate topic about your robot. Many of us could learn something from it  and many of us could probably help you out with some issues you might be having

I am what you called a mad scientist.
I don:t believe any documentation, No  blue print, No paperwork, No Cad.
I have build 12+ large robots (main robots) none of which has any documentation or blue print...

Even the software has NO documentation.
The software is about 3Gig and I think I have about 15 lines of comments.
The typical variable name I used are....
X, X1,X2, A1,A2,AA1,AA2,AAA1,AAA2  etc...

This is perfect for keeping pirates off your back. I kind of do the same thing. I make notes, but my notes are related to life lessons, personal experiences, and past situations, so basically they make no sense to anyone but me. I did it on accident for my first program in Java at college, and I gave my TA a headache and a half. Needless to say I got very little credit it was so poorly documented.

In my opinion, if it works properly, who cares what it looks like.

Dear Airman00

I am uncomfortable showing too much of my project on the network. I will talk to my niece about it and see if she thinks it is a good idea to share. I have an older project that almost worked. I have asked jules to show me how to put photographs in hypertext. I will share a photograph of the retired project when she teaches me.

Sincerely,
Tater Totco

hey all - mr tater posted a link on my thread about school advice reveling his "fem bot"... i'm not sure what to think. looks a lot different than aiko. in fact, it looks liek a manequin.

http://tatertotco.wordpress.com/2008/07/21/photograph-exercise/

tater - is she a manequin? does she have a  name?
