Connectors (Im a dummy question)
« on: May 20, 2008, 10:38:10 AM »
Up till now I was breadboarding everything, but now I am taking a class on electronics design and fabrication. We are etching our boards, and I am almost done soldering all the components on, and I am getting ready for one more order from digikey. I need 3 and 4 pin female connectors to connect my headers. I looked at the catalog and there are about a million different type of .100 female connectors, and some of the crimping tools are really expensive ($240!!!) Are female IDCs ok? Anyone have preferences?

Admin uses the Molex .100 PitchSL connector housings.

They come in 2 - 25 pin

You can use the manufacturer part numbers on this site to search on mouser or digikey.

Go for the Paladin Tools CrimpAll. You can get the crimper and the die for about $60USD

But I use needlenose to crimp, as shown here:

Hey everyone,

I'm new to SoR and I'm getting started on the $50 robot tutorial and was also wondering which crimp tool is the correct one.  Is this the correct crimper and die set for the molex connectors?

http://www.all-spec.com/1/viewitem/8026/ALLSPEC/prodinfo/i=rss

I found the specs for the Paladin 8000 CrimpAll series here:

http://www.connecticc.com/pdfs/8000_dtm.pdf

but I can't seem to figure out if it's the 8026 or 8028 Model that I need.  The specifications only mention molex for the 8028, but it seems that a search reveals the 8028 model from Paladin is no longer made!

Any advice or confirmation would be greatly appreciated,

Russell
