I am kinda upset about this i bought the more expensive programmer and it doesnt fit. the holes on it look like this ::: I have to plug it into this ::::: Can some one please help me I think it would fit if the 6 whole peice didnt have plastic on both sides. Please help.

well 4 of those ::::: are ground

all you need is: mosi, miso, sdk, reset, grd, power, and those are the 6 on the programer. now take the header on the $50 robot and resolder it to match.
or there might be another cable you can use.

Yeah, if you've actually done all the wire soldering (all the yellow wires in this image in the tutorial), then you'll need to desolder those wires. You should probably also desolder the 2 5-pin headers that those yellow wires were hooked up into, snip them down to 3 pins each, and then put them back in in a 3x2 pattern, and then figure out which pins on the new programmer header go to which pins on the IC (see this image from the other thread). and solder them all back in appropriately.

If you need to do this, don't be bummed! I had to do it a few days ago, and it was a great noob learning experience (how to desolder, thinking about which wires go where without just following the directions, etc.)

You just need to use a utility knife to cut off 2x2 pins and desolder only those. And then do how ribs instructed.

Actually you dont need to desolder anything.

You can just start with another empty space on the board to do the 3x2 header and run new wires to it.

Probably wont be useful, but this would then give your board compatibility for both the 5x2 and 3x2 programmer headers.

Ok so now I am completely lost somebody said I should open it up @ my own risk somebody said I should have a nother cable to hook on and somebody said I can fix it using the disk or the website will tell me and somebody said I could desolder or resolder so I am completely lost and would like to avoid resoldering anything right now!!!

Here's my setup when I'm breadboarding:

notice the ribbon cable near the AVR ISP? I cut an extra ribbon cable, split it, then soldered male pins on one end.

You could do almost the same thing. You solder female sockets on one end and MATCH the wires to the pins in the 2x5 socket.

So even if you have the 2x5 connector you can use the ribbon cable that came with the AVR ISP. If you have an extra ribbon cable and the correct headers you can create one of these to fit and so that you'll still have your old 2x3 cable intact.

Admin's recommendation is also OK.

I dont want to take anything apart in fear of breaking do you think admin will fix the tutorial and meybe add some pics so I can learn how to wire another 3x2 thing on............ I didnt know I would have to do all of this when I started........ Please help. thanks.

lol you picked the perfect user name

So if you look at the schematic in 3B, you will see I labeled every single pin with a name. Now looking at the post with the corrected wiring, you will see it also has names on all the pins. Just match the pin names and put wires between them. The only difference is the order, nothing else.

Besides, if you ever want to build a robot on your own, you will need to understand this stuff anyway. Im confident if you think about it for a bit that you can do it. Its literally connect the dots with wires

ok so... I tried and was a little confused by aa little bit but i think i know which things im snapping off after desoldering... its the 4 pins closest to the center of the board in the 5 pin headers right??? if anyone has a picture that would be great!!!
