Looking Through an LCD

I have never tried it but the concept makes sense in my head... Can I make a heads up display in a helmet or goggles that have an LCD without backlight set in behind of the lens. Then when you look through the lens you will see the display on top of the image coming in the lens. I got this idea by watching star wars and thinking a clone trooper or boba fett helmet would be really cool to have the ability to put a hud in it. Any thoughts?

The only thing you gotta do is to remove the mirror like coating and you are good to go!!!

Hmmm. I dont know how well that would actually work if you removed the film...
HUD's in military applications always project the image onto the screen, but lots of times military opts for "tried and true" methods rather than going with state of the art.
I found this, but they still use a substitute film:

I really think you need something like this man...

I had one of those so I decided to try it. It is really hard to remove the coating. I got two layers off but there is still the very sticky mirror layer. The thing is now semi transparent, you can tell when something is behind it but still you would not want it blocking you vision. Any ideas on how to remove this layer? I think it will work well if you can remove it cleanly without scratching the back.

Without the film you see nothing... But I said about the mirror... That's another thing....
The mirror is a aluminum foil something thingy in the back... remove it and you see through...

A good general purpose LCD for you is a old Nokia cellphone LCD...
Easy interface, small and lightweight, and found everywhere almost for free...
Also the controller is on one side facing down... This also makes things easier...

And airplane HUDs except some new ones, uses CRT monitors....
And these new ones are in experimental aircrafts,
This is because CRTs can create a greater contrast, helping the
pilot to see the HUD info at all weather....
Not even a match...

Any ideas on removing the film? It still works and I'll take pictures if I can remove the mirror cleanly.

Get some cheap calculators and then you can try different methods of removing the mirror without spending $$$...

This type of LCD is only $1-2, not that bad if you break a few. Do you think the display would break if it got wet?
