PIR + Axon
« on: September 09, 2009, 01:59:37 PM »
So I've been using the SE-10 ( http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8630 ) PIR unit plus an AXON board and several IRPD's (IR range detectors)  on my robot. The PIR's function great on the bench with an oscilloscope and breadboard and necessary pullup 10k resistors, however, when I hook everything to the axon board, I get intermittent results. Sometimes the PIRs pulls low, sometimes I'll get oscillation with no consistent functionality.

Do I need some filtering for noise from the IRPDs (sharp branded btw) I ran the PIR's through the digital lines, not the ADCs. I have tried the ADCs but I didn't get consistent performance out of those either.

Your sharps produce a lot of noise, enough to reset a microcontroller. This can be fixed by adding a 10nanoFarad, a 10microFarad and a +/- 500 Ohm resistor. You can read how to connect them here:
