The best damn Wii-mote hacks I've seen
« on: December 28, 2007, 06:52:52 PM »
While SoR's recent downtime s*cks, it had one upside: I've had some time to surf around the net, looking for great vids to place here :p .
(You may notice the heap of topics by me in the video forum XD )

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/
This link is to Johnny Chung Lee's site, He is a DIY Guru (check out his other projects to !).
this is a page where he shows his Wii-mote hacks, these are the best damn hacks I've seen.
These are his three projects with the wii-mote:

-Tracking Your Fingers with the Wiimote
-Low-Cost Multi-point Interactive Whiteboards Using the Wiimote
-Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the Wii Remote

They are all very impressive. And every video is even more impressive than the previous one.
Doesn't really relate to robotics directly, but you can't miss these as a self respecting (robot) DIYer. :)

lol a friend linked me that site as well during the time SOR forums were down, so I've looked through all that stuff already.  Really amazing work, hopefully Nintendo/developers will catch wind of this and implement his Wii stuff.

I also suggest checking out his project based projects at http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/thesis/
Absolutely mid-boggling, although I'd like to see a movie played with the distortion to see what kind of image degradation there is.  All we need now are some mini-projectors we can mount on our heads or glasses.  I hope I will be that good of a researcher one day.

Johnny Lee is really a genius!! Those hacks are awesome!
And the Human Computer Interaction Department at CMU is fantastic. They do lots of cool stuff there.

Hacked Gadgets had an interview with him: here it is
