Need help in making a humanoid robot

Hi i want to make a humanoid robot. Can anyone please suggest or give any book reference about the mechanics of static and dynamic walking of humanoid robot?  i want to build 1. is there any necessity of using gyroscope and accelerometer in static walking??

Gyro or accelerometer is not required to make humanoid walk. Many off-the-shelf humanoids do not have any sensors (apart from those used in servos) and yet with correct timing and manual servo positioning they can walk, however without any means to realise balance such robots cannot be programmed to dynamically recover if tripped.
