not really about robots. (voice recorder)
« on: January 22, 2008, 11:14:46 AM »
okay,

so it is my happy job from my teacher to make a carbord sigh that when i pass it it says "hello"

i will need a motion sensor and voice recorder

question: how can i hook it up so that when it senses motion it plays my recording.

the tricky part is that i want it to be able to rewind it's self so that i can just leave it there and it will say hello to anyone that it there without having to rewind every time

also i have no programing experiance and cant learn by friday so no code pls
robot will rule the world and i will be building them

Ok simple

get one of those cheap digital voice recorders, that you press a button and it plays a message ,i think its called a spy recorder or something

get a motion sensor that turns on a LED , or just use comparators connected to the motion sensor and have it switch a transistor which switches the voice recorder . Also, the voice recorder speaker is pretty weak, so I would make an audio amplifier circuit and play it on some big speakers.

Also, look around google, there are many projects like this

okay couple of things

what are
comparators
transistors

also how will i get it to rewind or when it stops pressing play will it automatically go back to the beginning

also if there are many people will it just keep playing without rewinding

I think comapators are chips that don't need any programming, it's like a microcontroller but is just an electronic circuit. Here is an example http://www.robotroom.com/Comparator.html. I hope this helped and good luck!

since it is a digital recorder ( there are no tapes and stuff)  you press a button, plays a sound, and resets
like this toy http://www.amazon.com/Wild-Planet-Spy-Gear%C2%AE-Pen-X2/dp/B0007V62YK

though there are cheaper ones

search google for how comparators work and what transistors are .

now the problem of multiple people passing by. That would keep on triggering the thing so it wouldn't even play the thing once,  imagine pressing the play button very quickly , it doesnt play the message , unti lyou let go and give it like a second. So to get around this I would use a capacitor and an inverter to keep the transistor open for a second after you send a signal to play the sound .

Google around ,and if you have more specific questions related to anything i said, post the question. But seriously google , the forum, and admin's tutorials have info on all of this .

idea

could i just run leads from the LED that it turns on ton the play button.

then so that if it just keeps playing, for the length of the recording i record the same message over and over

okay so if i get a moitin detector that turns on a led

i take out the led and run the wires from were the led was connected to the play button

then instead of the chip i just record the message many times. so if the recorder stays on i will say "hello hello hello..." untill the message runs out

run wires from the LED to the a transistor or relay which will switch the play button .

remember to ground the negative connection of both circuits.

you record hello many times and then press play ,yes that is fine

my bro got a spongebob from a happy meal or w/e.
you press the button and it lets you record like 5 seconds. press another button and it'll play it back

like it's been said, hack one of those up

cool

okay so i have this spy camera decoy thingy

it's motion sensitive and i was wondering the motion sensor id this little tube that has two wire sticking out if it that connect to the circut board. when activated it turns left and right, and turn on a LED. so can i just take the motion sensor without the circut board or will the circut board be needed for it to work

probably the motion sensor needs the circuit board to interpret the sensors output

is there a way to make it so that the speaker has a seperate power sorce

so the sound comes from the recorder but the speaker power comes from a battery

first decide on a speaker and then we'll help you out with the audio amp

okay guys i took the recorder apart and founs it used 3 watch batterys that are wired in paralel (4.5V)

i have this old walky talky that i took apart, it runs from a 9v battery.

the speaker has places to attach 4 leads 2 are audio and the others are not connected to anything (maybe external power)

speaker from walkie talky right?

unless the speaker has a built in amp(most likely not) the 4 connections might be interconnected so making it 2

okay scratch that

i poked around a little and found a old speaker that i pulled from a toy car

it has only two wires

(didn't want to over compicate the speaker seeing as i only have 2 days left to complete it)

it has some writing on the back "X R 8 0.5w" in bettween the 8 and 0 there is a little funny hourse shoe thingy
