Sandai robot video

Hi all!

This is my first time posting here.
Currently, I am re-designing it to be 1.2 meter in height. Hopefully we can mass produce in small volume by Fall.

The current Sandai  body design is base on Kondo -KHR-2 with a larger body and more "goodies" and it is about 0.8 meter in height.

Adding new feature to the database and software to be able to tell the different from Pepsi and water.
(The current database and software is about 1,450 Gig!!!)

new AI feature like..
You say "Nice day today"
The robot will replay "No, it's not nice today, because it is raining outside"
Yes, it can even tell weather.....almost done with this feature...probably this weekend.

Still working on...
feature like the robot can tell a family member from looking from a picture.
It has no probably recongizing live person.....but still have problem looking face from picture.

Using the robot to solve math equations got me to chuckle I especially like the defense modes

hmmm, i see the title to the clip is "sandai concept" leading me to believe that the robot does not really function as it would appear to be in the video. great ideas, but when can we expect the whole package?

Hi.

The Sandai-MP12 is about 1 meter in height.
It has some limitations.
Example can't open the door too well because of it size.
or
Can not reach the cup on a high table.

The software is cable of doing it, but the hardware is limited to it:s size.
Therefore, I am currently redesigning a new model code name Aiko which is
1.52 meter in height.

Also, re-programing the software to take less resources and adding new features.
And make sure the software  will work with the new model like center of gravity.
Aiko is more female apperance than a robot. I guess you can called an android.
I am moving at the end of June to a newer location, after that I can concentrate 100%
on Aiko.
It will be a long shot but hoping to go live by Fall....
(It will never be fully finished because I always add new features...)

I want to build Aiko using min. sensor. Everything will be control mostly from
the lense camera(s) of the eyes not from sensors.
example. finding distance from the wall using camera not sonar or
balance itself using camera not from gyro.

Aiko will probably be my breaking point, all the money is put into it.
If it work...great.... If it doesn:t I am in trouble.

If Aiko doesn:t work, then I will release the software as OpenSource.
I have spent a lot of time and energy into the software...
hopefully, people can put the software into their robot.

The barebone software is about 3Gig...
It has a lot of features that people can play around with it.


I will try to keep update on the project after I move to the new location.

It must of cost you a pretty penny to make and a lot of man hours!

It says on your website you are "hoping to have a small volume in productions by mid year"
Are you planning to sell them to hobbyists? do you have any idea how much you might retail them for?

I watched the videos and they looked fake... not to under mind your work if it's real.

In the 2nd video you said, "point at the word uuummmmm acid". I don't see how it understood that. I had to play the video twice, read it, and play the part where you say 'acid' 3 times just to understand that you said "acid".

I've worked with Voice Recognition and that seamed a little far fetched.

You also hoped that your robot would one day sing on stage, but didn't think it would come in your life time. Sounds like that robot could preform very well. The words are not choppy and flow very nicely.

I thought the whole 1'st person loocked a little fake. It just looked like a camera transmitter on the robot transmitting the pictures to ure computer, the rest looked like effects!

The voice recognition has come a long way...it is not perfect but some improvement is coming OK.
It has some basic grammar check and spelling check... any word it doesn:t understand it will take it out and try to understand the sentence.
Example
You talk someone on a train....
He said...
"I went $#$# the store, !"'&#!(#$ (noise )  buy milk.
It will translate that as
I went the store buy milk.

It probably not the best way of programing, but it just look for the key word to do it thing. If it doens:t find the key word then you have to repeat the sentence again.
Example
Hi There, How are you feeling today.
The robot will look for keyword.
Hi, how, feeling.

The robot will repley
Hi, I am fine.

It took me awhile to do the data for the above, but it is so large now, that it is very hard for me to double check anything.


The first person view is very good for me because I can connect the wire from the robot out into my laptop.
I can see what the robot is doing.
Example
If the robot kick the ball and fell down for no reason.
I can see why it fell down...
1 ) Is it hardware failure or
2) A bug in the software.


AS for singing on stage.... that is my dream....probably something which will never happen because you need "feeling" inorder
to sing.... machine will never have feeling.... not in my life time anyway.
Since the robot can read, I was thinking of it reading music note and sing from there.... or try to mimic a person singing with feeling.
I haven:t figure how to do it yet, but that is my least priority now.

Most of my time went into the software,,, a lot of time.... didn:t really spent that much time on the hardware.

I will spend more time on Aiko and less on the software, because most of the code can be re-used.
(I spent A lot of money on it...to the point of no return from my credit card company.)

The software is modifed to take a max of nine firewire camera...
But I only use 4 .... 2 for the eyes, the other 2 to replace the basic sensors.
(sony video camera is used, took it apart and modifed what I need to do... also FRY some of them... that also add cost to the project!!)
