forum search engine problems
« on: December 20, 2007, 08:27:08 AM »
I'm sure many of you have been frustrated with the search algorithm for this forum (cause I definitely have). :-\

It does a poor job, not identifying posts, giving inconsistent results for the same search, sometimes caps dependent and sometimes not, etc.

The google search isn't much better, but if you can't find a post with the forum search, try it:

Hope this helps some of you . . .

I am now trying a new much larger search index for the forum. In theory it will greatly improve search . . .

If anyone notices a big improvement (or search gets worse) let me know.

Also I noticed that every search generates an error message in the error log . . . not sure why, but it has something to do with the move to the new server . . .

Let me know if anyone notices anything odd.
