What do you guys think of this kit?

Looking to buy a versatile kit to get me started. I'm a university student just getting into robotics. I just have a few requirements.

1. Want to program in C
2. Versatile, not just a dedicated kit to build 1 thing (ie sumo kit)
3. Can allow for add-ons and expansions.
3. Comes with everything electrical at a minimum (mechanical not a must but preferred).

A classmate I know bought this:

And he said he liked it because it had a lot of IO ports

and I went on the site and found two others that seem similar

Just wondering what do you guys recommend for me and also, if there are other robokits that are similar to what I'm looking for, please do suggest it.

Admins $50 robot is easy and it's programmed in C  (home page)
Great versitile MCU too

Those kits looks great, but I can't see the price so tht's kind an issue
If I had to choose one I'd take the robo-pica, since I've heard of that MCU more.
PIC's also have a big user group, so help would probably easier to come by

I must say, those kits do look nice.

I think if you can do anything fun to enhance learning

e.g

Building a robot instead of programming microcontrollers to do things that aren't robots

Programming games instead of databases

It all helps gain a hunger for the rest of the boring stuff.

Oh, yes. I saw the interactive C kit advertised for around $250 CDN. So yes, it is pretty expensive. I guess I should look at the $50 robot. I thought it was only task specific and didn't think it's something that can be expanded.
