Robot for BBQ smoker

I am trying to make a robot that covers and uncovers a vent the size of a half dollar on a BBQ smoker at a push of a button. My plan is to have something that sends wireless signals to whatever is needed, and that is connected to a servo which has the command to cover and uncover the air vent. I need a servo and an motherboard though, and I am wondering if I can use parts of my old activitybot (From Parallax, see here:
http://www.parallax.com/product/32500
) kit, or if I need to buy new parts and make my own robot. If I do need to buy new parts, I will need 2 transceivers, 1-2 microcontrollers, and a servo. I also learned that I can find the parts in a radio. Someone told me that these were needed in another forum
http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/157771-Robot-for-BBQ-smoker?p=1298890#post1298890
. So, I am wondering if these parts will be good for the robot.

Nevermind. We are going to take apart a remote-controlled car and use its preprogrammed logic and connections for the movements! this will be cool.
