Heya guys, so I bought the axon, and am presently setting up the software according to the instructions here, but am unable to get it to compile, I selected the avr gcc, the avr simulator and the atmega640, named the project "Axon" for simplicity, copied all the unzipped files from the source code 1.05 into the Axon folder, added source files hardware.c and control.c and the header SoR_Utils.h, configured the external makefile, and tried to compile the code with rebuild all and i got this error.

Any ideas on what i might be doing wrong? should I try to use a different source code?

I am running windows vista ultimate 64bit.

By the way how do you post code up like this person did in this post?

You'll need to patch winavr. Follow these instructions.
http://www.madwizard.org/electronics/articles/winavrvista

several people on the forum had the same issues.

Thanks for the quick response yerbie, I took a look at the links and they look very pertinant, I'm going to go try the patches and solutions offered and I will come back with the results.

edit: i installed the latest edition, of avr studio 4.16 and build 628, two revisions up from the one that states it now supports vista 64 bit,  ran through the instructions again after moving the previous project to another folder. same error occurs, I'm going to now try the tweaks they offered for 64 bit errors.

i was able to use the fix provided for 64 bit vista on the website that you provided. http://www.madwizard.org/electronics/articles/winavrvista

basic rundown was download the new file that fixes the problem.
here is a direct download link from the site.  http://www.madwizard.org/download/electronics/msys-1.0-vista64.zip

replace the file "msys-1.0.dll" in the s \utils\bin folder of your WinAVR install folder.

poof problem solved ;)

i did a clean command then a rebuild all command. and the program compiled

nice! on to the next steps!

doh! usb wont connect.
I see here yerbie that you also had issues with usb under vista 64.

I also have the AVRISP MKII and it (not my axon) installed just fine when plugged into my computer usb.  But I don't understand how to use it to program the axon.

and I downloaded and installed Putty but do not understand how to connect to the axon with it like you have.

alright, good deal, I'm using vista 64 and i was able to connect to the axon via the AVR ISP MKII programmer and AVR studio 4.16 with the hacked file replacement for vista 64 bit fix above.

also got instructions on the MKII here
