Programmer
« on: May 26, 2011, 10:43:14 PM »
Okay, so I'm going to make the $50 robot microcontroller, but first I need to find the right programming cable. Would: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-ISP-Programmer-AVR-AVRDUDE-Khazama-/380319763052?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588cd30a6c or the better one:  http://cgi.ebay.com/Mini-USB-AVR-JTAG-Programmer-Debugger-AVR-atmega-/380328122863?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588d5299ef work, because it is a 10 pin header, which is exactly what the $50 robot uses...

Thanks in advance

FYI, 6 pin header works just fine as well. The PDF diagram of the circuitry shows wiring for 6 pin. And, 6 pin is more common these days.

So would these ones work?

And can you link that PDF?

The ones you link to should work, but as Razor Concepts says the six pin header is much more common now. Several people on the forum use the Pololu programmer which is available here

The post with .pdf is linked from the $50 robot tutorial, but you can find it here.

Can this be used for both 6 pin and 10 pin? it says it does, so it sounds like it can be used to program microcontrollers with 10 pin or 6 pin headers....

Thanks for all the info you guys! You are lifesavers  :)

Yes, that will program 10 and 6 pin headers via the included cable.

Do you have a desktop computer? If yes, then an inexpensive DAPA cable is much easier, works like a charm, and doesnt need you to spend on that programmer for until a bit later, until you are experienced enough and can make your own programmer for around $6 (thats the dollar conversion of the cost in India, Rs 250-300, i might be a bit off mark here).
