An ATMEGA8 and a ATMEGA168.

I was hoping that it can be something i can use on all of my robots. Which is Currently the $50

as long as you stick with avr, the $50 programmer will last you a while... or a fair few robots anyway :P

well, both actually! you can buy or build. depends on your pc mainly.
if your computer has a parallel port you can use this programmer http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=13 you can also build this programmer with a few parts, search the forum.

if your computer is newer and does not have a serial or parallel ports you are probably stuck with usb programmers.
while they are more expensive, usb programmers are generally regarded as better than the parallel port ones.

well at this stage i think i am going to have to go with the digykey programmer as i don't have a serial port on my laptop and i can't seem to find any serial to usb adapters at a resonable price here in Australia. They are all like $35 - $50 and for that i can get a usb Programmer.

How much would it cost to make them as i may be able to use my dads computer to upload code.

nah, if you don't have one on your pc, just get the usb programmer, its better in the long run.

South Australia.

Well i can not afford to buy the usb one at the moment so i will build one and use the other computer for now untill i can upgrade. I have calculated it to cost me $3.13, so really it is not that much and it will last a while.
