Just gonna need this extra ARM or DSP processing power...
« on: June 20, 2010, 08:45:42 AM »
Hello guys, I just need to ask this long long question...

I'm in need of extra processing power, I'm thinking of some ultrasonic beam forming playing around this period....
So I'll need that extra processing power...

I'm mostly inclined to a good 16bit DSP but learning an ARM is not but at all (considering that it will be able to perform well...)

I know that there are Xmega around the corner but I'll keep that option perhaps for later...

What I'm looking is a good controller, with a friendly enough FREE IDE, with a large helping community and and some easy to find programmers, preferably not too expensive...

I know philips has some good ARM processors but I don't know about the IDE... or the community...
I know that Motorola has some good DSP and code warrior, but don't really know about the community and the
programmers available...

So... What are you suggesting??? I don't really want to go for more than 150$ for programmer and development...
Although I can manage to make my own development board ;-)

And a nice FREE IDE can come, just in handy ;-D

Thanks again,
Lefteris

lPCexpresso is a nice cheap ARM cortex m3/0 development platform, includes the programmer and target board for 30 bucks, free IDE also.
