Title: programing problems
Post by: Trumpkin on December 13, 2007, 09:55:53 AM
When ever I select write all in pony prog for the $50 robot its says missing or unknown device Ive checked what admin said to do and it didn't make any difference. Could it be that I dont have the microcontroller pushed into to the dip socket enough? Or have i Shocked one of my components?

make sure you dont have any short circuits using a digital multimeter anywhere and that your micro controller is getting at least 5 volts constantly. Also make sure that everything thats supposed to be connected is connected correctly and such.

I think I might have just not plugged in the microcontroller all the way into the dip socket. I'm using the usb to serial convereter i checked in the ponyprog interface set up and could not find any thing for usb What are you supposed to do??

I checked my battery voltage and it's like 3 volts hopefully that and pressing the microcontroller into the dip circuit will fix my problem.

according to this you can't use a usb to serial converter with ponyprog  :'( http://ponyprog.sourceforge.net/phorum/read.php?2,22

im not sure but I've seen a problem like that happening with a PIC programmer of mine ( USB to serial did not work)

I went ahead and got a USB programmer

the only solution I've seen to this is to make a virtual serial port using Bluetooth and then connect the programmer to the Bluetooth

My advice : get yourself a USB programmer
