Is the pic-pg1 programmer reliable ??? ??? ? I want to program a pic18f4550 with it. Also in ic-prog for this programmer, do I select JDM programmer?

I would NOT recommend any Third party programmer when you can buy directly from Microchip the PICKit2 for $35.
The PICKit2 (or PICKit3) also is fully integrated into MPLAB as a Programmer or Debugger.

Hi,

Although generally frowned upon, I'll have to make an *Agree* here - PICKIT is the way to go.
Most 2. party (read: amateur) programmers usually only supports a subset of controllers and have other idiosyncracies and a few is even higher prized though very limited in usability.

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?
