Title: Arm Wrestling Arcade Games & Robots
Post by: jim150454 on July 16, 2015, 01:02:03 PM
Hey everybody,

Recently, I was on holiday with my family. The hotel we stayed in had an arcade next to it, and inside there was an arm wrestling game called Over The Top. In case people haven't seen any of these games like I hadn't, it was basically a cabinet with a plastic forearm jutting out of it and a screen above it; simply beat one character to move up to a stronger one.

As I watched my brother destroy all the opposing challengers, I wondered how a machine like that would work. It was definitely motorised, which I found out from looking at it and pictures of the internals I'd found online, but I still don't know how it works. Wouldn't a motor burn out if it was being pushed against so hard that it moved in the opposite direction? I don't have much experience with motors and such but I'm really curious to understand how it functions without breaking. It would be cool to be able to build my own.

If anyone can shed some light on how a machine like that could function, I'd be happy to hear it!   ;D
