Hi all,
I am trying to design a robot for a competition where speed is an important factor (running on concrete pavement).

I am aiming for a minimum of 2.5 m /s (equivalent to 8.2  ft / s ).
Since the wheel has a diameter of 0.042 m, I would need 2.5*60/0.042/3.14159 = 1137 RPM.

My robot weighs about 380 grams (0.84 pounds) with everything except for the motors. Since speed is important, I want to make it as light as possible.

I figured that I 'd need about 8 oz-in (or 0.055 N-m, again without motors) of torque to move the robot from its stationary position, assuming a friction coefficient of 0.7

I found some gear motors online, such as the 30:1 Micro Metal Gearmotor HP from Pololu (only 10 grams), but these tiny motors usually don't have the combination of RPM and torque that I need.

Does anyone know what kind of motors racing cars use?
I found that they usually use the RC540 motors but their specs are very hard to find online.

Can anyone recommend a powerful, fast, yet light motor ?

Also, would I really need an RPM of 1137 or a lower one would do due to acceleration in speed?
