I bought all the needed parts. But there are still left that the seller can't understand.

Can I ask another thing? Wat is d size of the LDR/photoresistor? 3? 5? 7?

I can't find L293D, what is this? Any information for me to know it better?

How about the male header pins?

By the way, I used 4- 5mm orange LED because its 10x cheaper than the Blue LED. And 4- 20K Trimmer because according to the seller, the one in the drawing is a trimmer and not a preset. So, i bought the trimmer.

And, 2- 0.22 Uf mylar capacitor instead of capacitor because there is no available. is IT OKAY?

Thats the only parts needed to buy for tomorrow, so I'm asking for your help, once again. Thank You.

male header pins can be found on digikey www.digikey.com and the L293D appears to be a motor driver chip http://www.solarbotics.com/assets/documentation/kit10.pdf

ok the hsomethingD is an H-bridge male header pins are used to connect wires. the size of the photoresistor really matter to much i used 3 because it was the cheapest

. i think the l.e.d should be fine... the capasatator i dont think it will matter but im not sure. and that thing is a preset but the trimmer will work as ed said.

Smash, you just repeated what other people have said.

The trimmer WILL work, and it IS the same thing as a preset.

The male header pins arent "used to hold something in place", they are used to connect wires to.

well from what i've read i believe that she needs it done rather quickly so shipping wouldn't really be much of an option

I rellay can't find L293D motor driver and a SN754410. What can I do? The submission is on Feb. 6. Its a requirement for graduation, what will happen if i didn't make it. No graduation? Please HELP!!!

Is the part really needed or can I just ignore it? Is the motor driver same as the 16 pin DIP socket? Because they look the same.

You can replace the L293D in the circuit with a high power NPN transistor for black line following or a high power PNP transistor for black line following.
Common high power NPN transistors are 2N2222, SL100 and D880.
If you are using transistors in place of L293D, slight modification of the circuit, as shown below, is required

But by using transistors you can only build a line follower.

There is also an advantage of using the above circuit instead of using the L293d. The speed of the motor will be proportional to the distance between the sensor and the edge of the line. When the sensor is in the center of the line the motor corresponding motor brakes. The speed of the motors gradually increases as the sensor moves away from the edge of the line. This way the robot will be able to follow the line better.

I myself not tested the above circuit, but it should work.

There is no pin, are you sure? Is in it that the pins hold the socket and the socket is overlapping with the L293D? Please let me see a edited picture of what your talking about, just like removing the L293D amd replacing it to the transistors. Just want to see how it look like, let me see where to put the transistors. PLEASE!!!

al salam alaikum ,
hello all ! , my name is Raad , i am new to SOR .. i have a question about this $40 dollar line follower .. I've built the circuit and after spending a long day doing so , i get a new 9V battery and hook it on , i was happy the motors were kicking .. didn't ever get the chance to hold the sensors when 2 LED's blew up and broke !. any explanation to this ?and another Question that i might be doing wrong .. the last four cables that are suppose to switch the robot from black line to white line follower ,, i cant see where two of them hook up ?!

plus one goes under the board and no clear explanation to that ! .. please help

do you have the right resistors hooked up? If you do not have a resisitor or if you do not have the right value of resistor the leds will blow up. look at the color bands on the resistor to see if its the right resistance

The actual case color and size depends on the ratings such as quarter watt etc... you can get a 330ohm resistor for a lot of different ratings

they are both fine

270 ohm will make the LED brighter , i use 220 ohm for my LEDs

is it normal if my roboot is all done but doesn't have an L293D and not moving? I still can't find a motor driver until now, all things are assembled but it is not moving... is it because it doesn't have a L293D? or will it move even if theres no motor driver?

You can switch to the circuit given in one of my previous replies to this post. It uses a transistor to drive the motor instead of a L293D. So you don't need any motor driver to control your motor.

thank you for the fast reply .. well .. i got 3 resistors in the circuit one that goes with the first green LED and two with the red LED's .... having the blue LED's in parallel and connecting directly to the node where the Vcc comes in would give each a 9V supply! .. now i changed the lights and tried a 5V supply .. lights are on but now only one motor is working .. and when i flip the selector wires the other one works.. !!

"I advice you to add a 270 ohms resistor between the red wire from the sensor board and Vcc(red wire of the battery clip) to limit the current reaching the LEDs. I have not fried a single LED but some SOR members have fried their LEDs for not having used the resistor. "

i did not use that advice .. maybe its time to do so ..lol after 8 LED's ..

this leaves one problem ...the last 4 wires .. that are shown in the last two pictures of the tutorial .. i cannot make where they come from !.. can someone explain it please ? .. is there any pictures from the ones who built this robot ?

by the last wires do you mean the ones that come from the resistors and change whether it is black or white line? also could someone tell me how i make it obstical avoider!
