Current Change on Motor?
« on: May 21, 2008, 12:50:07 PM »
If I have a motor that has 3000 rpm at 2A, and I add a gear to slow down the motor to 150 rpm - does the current draw change?

Motors tend to draw more current when there is more force countering their rotation. If you add a gear it will probably mean slightly more resistance to the rotation, so possibly a little more current draw. I think the only way to know is to measure it... Or to find out what is your motor's rated "stall current" (the maximum current it can take at its rated voltage, if you force it to stop rotating).
