So, I got really interested in doing the 50 dollar robot, so with my school's science fair coming up I though, why not make it for the fair? Well, now I have all the parts, but when I began making the microcontroller (or whatever it is called) I got stuck. At first I tried soldering, but I didn't work out for me. Then I bought a mini-breadboard, like what was mentioned in the tutorial. Now, the breadboard I bought is really really small! About two inches long, and an inch and a half wide. By the way, I need to have this robot done by about Christmas.

That breadboard is too small. If you live in the States, go to RadioShack or equivalent to buy a larger one.
If you are completely new to breadboard, i suggest going over the Wikipedia article about them or at least this section: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breadboard#Diagram (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breadboard#Diagram)
That will show you how a breadboard is laid out. The center is where the microcontroller would go.
