Bar code reader for robot?
« on: August 21, 2010, 10:32:11 AM »
I have an Arduino Mega I will be using in a robot I am currently building. I have the Sharp IR sensor attached to it already. So I was wondering how to build a bar code reader for the robot using the SHarp IR sensor or some other sensors.

I was thinking if a robot had a reader and one placed bar code labels around the house the robot would know where it was and help use the info to navigate. Plus when I wasn't using the robot I could use the reader to inventory my collection of stuff like CDs and magazines!

Do you mean the Sharp IR Distance sensor?
If so then this can not read bar codes.

Bar code readers work very differently than the Sharp distance sensor. Try Googling 'DIY bar code reader' to learn more.
