Intel Atom

Every now and again I see that there are bots using the Intel Atom.
What platforms exist that would be ideal for robots?

I assume You ask about Augmented Microcontroller Boards. There are few well known ones:
  • For general hobby robotics Arduino or Axon will do nicely.
  • For video processing and heavy computing something like Raspberry-Pi is a more suitable approach, although You still have to use some low level board (like the ones mentioned above) to do all actuation and sensor reading.

It really all depends on what You want to build.
