Would these work fine together? Battery and Charger
« on: July 17, 2009, 07:24:59 PM »
I just want to make sure if they will work 100% before I buy them.
Charger:
http://www.robotshop.us/power-supply-6vdc-1-5amp.html
Battery:
http://www.all-battery.com/6v2300mahnimhsidebysiderxreceiverbatterypackswhitecconnectorforrcaircraftswalkingrobot.aspx
I was thinking, like in the $50 robot tutorial, to just cut the wires on the charger and use alligator clips connect the charger and battery together. Will these two together work fine? Or is there something else you could suggest?
Thanks

yes, those could work together, just think about adding in a resistor to limit the current to the battery pack.

Thanks, I make a note of that. The thing I don't like about resisters is they are color-coded. When I first started with electronics, I was wondering why I always mixed up resisters and my projects never worked. Turns out I am red-green color blind, but now I have a Multimeter! ;D I just felt like sharing that...

just remember the formula for calculating resistance, voltage*current :P

resistance, voltage*current Tongue
no, v=ir so resitance = voltage / current

power = current*voltage

yep, your correct sonictj it is r=v/i

If you have the money it will be a lot better to buy a real battery charger. Charging using that power supply will over-charge/under-charge and will eventually kill the battery.

So I would just be better off with this then:
http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3005
It's a smart charger that can be used for 4.8v to 10.8v.

Yes, you would be much better off with that charger than with the power supply you mentioned in the starting post.
Think outside the box... inside is to crowded.
