Need urgent help ! Connecting DC motors
« on: March 13, 2010, 02:36:19 AM »
Dear all,

I have got two micro DC motors working with 5V and drawing maximum 1A or maybe less. Can I connect them directly to Axon II without any drivers?

I was reading Axon II datasheet and I read that ADC pins are supporting up to 1.5A. Can I connect DC motors to ADC pins?

Your help is appreciated.

not advised, they cause current spikes. better to run them through a H bridge.  search L298 (its a part type, you should be able to find some) if you don't want to make one. its more than capable of doing what you want.

CURRENT TOLERANCES

All ADC power bus pins get power from the 5V LDO voltage regulator with maximum allowable current of 1.5A.

Is the ADC power bus pins that supporting up to 1.5A. Not ADC pins which can supply only about ~20mA power, each. Exceeding this number could damage/fry the I/O pin.
