motor timer

does anyone have a schematic for a circuit that will run a motor for a set time and then reverse and run backward for the same amount of time?

Try taking a look at 555 timer circuits.  A monostable timing circuit and a flip-flop could be used.  An alternative, if you have a microcontroller you can just program it.
