I have done it, Does your servo still have the motor controller?
If yes, there should be two resistors where the pot is placed on normal servos, remove them, add a small pot( i salvaged mine from a broken 180º servo, put that pot on the main shaft some how, i used glue, but before gluing, center it, send a signal for it to be in the 90º, and move the pot till it stops moving...
there is no need for that little plastic stopper thing, mine still works fine after 6 months
