A message from Bill Wulf -- NAE launches Grand Challenges project
The National Academy of Engineering is about to launch a project that will identify opportunities for engineering to shape the world’s future. We would be very grateful for your expert input.
Please nominate the Grand Challenges you see facing engineering, and the opportunities engineers should seize, during roughly the next century. Consider particularly the areas of your expertise, and include any pertinent back-up materials.
You can send your ideas to us at this new NAE website:
www.engineeringchallenges.org. Please visit it often during the next nine months. It will be evolving, and we welcome a continuous flow of your thoughts.
An international blue-ribbon committee of prominent technological and scientific visionaries will draw upon your ideas, and many others, in deciding upon a final list that will be announced in the fall of 2007.
We hope that the outcomes of this project will provide a guide toward the future for engineers, a tangible motivation for young people who want to make a difference, and a better public understanding about how engineering shapes our world.
If you have any questions, please send an e-mail to
[email protected] and they will be promptly answered.
Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Wm. A. Wulf
President
National Academy of Engineering
