Title: Which programmer?

Hey guys ;)
I am just about to buy a microcontroller programmer but i'm undecided on which one. I am very keen on getting PicKit2 but it seems like a lot of people on this forum go for arduino and atmels... Which one do you think is the best for somebody who has quite a lot of programming experience but only starts with microcontrollers and why?
