Different locomotion, and building it :)

The middle part really proves the value in planning before getting to work :P

No, why? On the contrary, I love youst getting into it, hate planning (too much)

:)

If you plan, then you always know what to do next and you'll be sure when you're done. You also make like 90% less mistakes if you plan the construction out or something ;)

Well... If you plan, you must be able to know what you are planing.

And since I am not using CAD, and laser cut pieces etc.. I just use what I have, the best way I can - well then I cannot plan, only try my way to get things together, and thereby just build, you see.

I cannot plan what to do when I do not know how things fit or does not fit - So I have to just do it = no planning.

Of course I have an idea of what I want, like "the Skiwalker", I thought it would be funny - well - take a look at this page, it should explain the inspiration: http://letsmakerobots.com/node/35

Can I see some of your work, a link?

Actually, when thinking about it, I did make a biped in ninth grade. It was just a premade set with one single engine, no intelligence unit and basically just gears that made the two legs move. It's nothing impressive and it sucked. I don't have it anymore I'm afraid.

I'm thinking about getting started doing this stuff, it's really interesting. I've read most tutorials on the site and skimmed the forums.

Robot building is fun! I love the moment when it comes to life from just being pieces!

I have made a complete walk through of a project that is more then just "a beginners project", but it will work as a VERY easy beginners project:

http://letsmakerobots.com/node/17

Let me hear if you really is going to build a little project, I am a pretty experienced newbee myself, can help with the basics etc,

you could also do this one, it is only 40$, and only takes an hour or 2, but is highly programmable: http://letsmakerobots.com/node/87

Ciao!

Exactly, and these are extremely hard to plan your way out of! So .. thats what I said; Its just "do it" ;)

I also noticed you're danish, anything useful for roboteers around in Denmark? I happen to live in southern Sweden and can travel there easily (rather going to Denmark than going all the way to the states)

(Sorry for being offtopic :P)

Yes, I am Danish. And no, the scene is dead. This is why I am spamming with videos like this to get robot-friends, and force my few danish friends to write in English on our site etc.. all because I have no robo-building friends in Denmark ;) http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-6154034533075077289&hl=en

At least you have a swedish robo-building friend right here! I'm even from Skåne which is very close.

Ha, no I understand why you get that thought, now I am reading my own post again :) But no, we have no cruel moderator as far as i know of, it was actually me who wrote it, I was just humble - or trying to be humble, in ASCII - because I felt a little bad about having put the "advertisment" for my own site on this site :) (See the video, and you may get me, it is just a robot showing my websites adress)

Well.. erhm.. Ok, what I am trying to say is that you should stay away from the transfer with a piece of string. It works like a piece of s*** ;)

On the very robot´s front, erh.. yes - it IS a cock-wheel.. but.. it is just used as a disc to hold a piece of piano-wire (hard metal) on place to the servo!

Get it? :D Never mind, it is a cock-wheel, but not used as a such! And I recomend them over string!!

how cool! I just got a private message from another, I think you perhaps are more than you thik over there! We have a small club in Copenhagen, some 20 people all starting building now (and soon entering letsmakerobots.com I hope), drop me a priv message, perhaps we can have some fun!
