Apparently the legs were too heavy and he isn't that great of a RC pilot, and he crashed it the next day, but still this is really cool.

What are the legs made out of? Metal? It doesn't seem like if those are plastic it would weight it down that much.

Those helicopters are usually only designed to carry the necessary things for flying and nothing else. By adding a walking system the lift system is overwhelmed. Keep in mind theres also servos to make the legs move and such.

Nice, if he could get away with smaller walking gear and yanked out anything and everything cosmetic from the chopped section, that would be an incredible little gizmo! I was surprised at how smooth the legs functioned, as well as the quality of the helicopter in it's own right, just started right up and would have probably lifted off without a second thought had it not been carrying all the added weight.  :)

Weight is no problem for these helicopters, they are just really hard to fly. Really, really hard. Spin around on your chair while balancing a marble on a pane of glass hard.

You have to hear the blades on the larger RC helicopters... they sound like they are literally ripping the air apart.

That is awesome. I really want to make one that can autohover and fly on its own.

@ tralfam

I had the same thoughts in my head when i started robotics...

You will soon learn that something like that is extremely hugely insane massive quad huge to the power of 9.562 hard.

Just like I did.  ;)

But don't let me change your idea, your probably 100 times smarter then me...chances are you'll do it  :)
