[SOLVED] Xbee question series 2 setup
« on: January 23, 2010, 09:14:22 AM »
Alright guys, I'm asking out of frustration:

Xbee's of the same frequency and series should 'talk to each other' right away with default settings, right?

I have been googling forever and can't get a straight answer, or a understandable setup guide.

I have had 900 Pro's, and they work together but not well indoors or at high speeds. I bough series 2.5 pro 2.4Ghz and they don't talk to each other at all, and i have reset both to defaults.

I almost miss my FreeWave's at work now.

So i figured it at,

Apparently, the series 2.5 pro's are more advanced to the point the require configuration to setup.

This is the most helpful Xbee Series 2/2.5 setup guide i have found:

Great that you found those instructions (I saved the link myself).
I was trying to write you a response as you did figure out that these XBees that not so straight forward and do need some set-up. Its just not easy the give a short response.
Digi's marketing hype of out-of-the-box ready is one of my peeves. As they always need some parameters set-up and their documents not not easy to digest.

It's odd that the 900 Pro's i have did work out of the box, but not the series 2.5.

The only thing the pdf i found isn't clear on(doesn't say it at all) is that you also need to add the end-point modules address to the coordinator default destination to complete the 2way link. I'm debating taking the pdf and re-writing it more for people just interested in a 'wireless serial' cable more then any of the fancy networking.

Digi's manual for these things is so over complicated.

LOL, it's already been done. There's a tutorial for doing it somewhere on sparkfun's site.

So, while trying to help someones else on this same problem, i found the pdf i linked is no longer there.

These instructions look like a good replacement.

Posted for anyone that finds their way to this thread for the same problem.
