Autonomous RC Car

Hello!

I am trying to build an autonomous rc car. Here is what kind of thing I intend to build;

As shown in the link, I would like to make it follow roads perfectly and understand the traffic lights. These are my first purposes.

I am taking a course on edx on vision intelligence of robotics to build a theoretical and practical background. However, I need some help of experienced people to understand steps of the process and materials I need.

I am an electronic engineering student.
