Arduino Plug Issue
« on: May 14, 2011, 01:45:29 PM »
I bought an Arduino Uno to use for my CNC.  Everything is going well, but I'm running into one small issue.  I'm having trouble getting the wires to stay in the arduino plugs.  Does anybody have any tips?

I'm using the wires from an ethernet cable for the dir and step controls and those wires seem to be a bit too thin to stay in the sockets.  I'm also using some 18 gauge wire that is doing a bit better, but still isn't perfect.

You could try using 0.1" (2.54mm) male header pins - they're designed to mate with the female headers on the Arduino.  Alternatively, if you know this will be a permanent install, just solder to the bottom of the Arduino board, on the other side of the female header socket.  Ethernet cable wires are likely stranded - tin them with solder and they should fit a bit more snugly.
