Need Help with Gala Lisa, my robotics project
« on: August 24, 2008, 06:37:09 PM »
I am building a robot called Gala LISA.  The robot is intended to be a general use robot for my personal use and (maybe) to sell eventually.  I have assembled a simple parts list for you guys to take a look at.

Interesting robot

have you seen mine?

What is your experience in robotics and electronics and what exactly do you want this robot to do?

I want the robot to be a companion robot that can do tasks that it is programmed to.  The robot will also use an entity recognition system I am helping to develop.

Well what you want to do is establish all the functions you want the robot to do and post up a list
Then figure out how to do each function

Can you please tell me your experience level in robotics , that will make my replies more understandable to you.

define "and more"

Also, these are pretty daunting tasks. Do you actually know how to do all of this?
Have you any experience or electronics and programming background?

The chat function is already created.
All the other tasks rely on the entity recognition system

If you want it to vacuum and mop, you may consider making the body out of a vacuum and modifying it to mop too.

The Entity Recognition system is being written in VB.net and will be translated to Java someday.

So here is the parts list.  Does this project seem feasible?

BASIC PARTS LIST

Motor Mount & Wheel Kit with Position Controller   $279.99   1   $279.99
HB-25 Motor Controller   $49.99   2   $99.98
Powersonic PS-1270 F1 SLA 12V Battery   $25.95   2   $51.90
Red: 18GA - 33 FT   $5.99   1   $5.99
Black: 18GA - 33 FT   $5.99   1   $5.99
Board of Education (USB) - Full Kit   $99.99   1   $99.99
Laptop of your choice   Free+

Total   $549.63
Total w/out Board of Education (USB) - Full Kit   $449.64

“Gala” stands for GenerAL Applications.  LISA stands for Learning, Intelligence, Speech, Autonomous.  Those are my goals for this project. My projected cost is on sheet one.

The project will start out with just the basics. The first version will use very simple software to get around. Sensors such as the PING))) module will be added later on. Voice control is also an option for the robot.

Because I have it already, and there is a huge group of people who use it.

anyway you can use a better USB to I/O interface that is controlled entirely from PC ( such as phidgets)

1. I am not changing.

2. I have been wondering if it would be possible to use software developed for chatbots to control the robot.  However, instead of just vocal replies, some commands would cause the robot to do something.

I've been looking at chatbots as well

How far have you gotten with that?

lol very clear answer

My idea was to parse html for one of the online chatbots and create chat functions that way. Have you found a downloadable chat bot thats good?

I think I should just buy the motor controllers  and motor kit and start working on developing some basic control software
