hi im considering taking this as my job and i need to know what 2 take for gcse and the like to go into building mechs i know some 1 does it!

Well, you'll need great scores in school and most likely need a uni degree, Years of experience!
If you are generally interested in this field, do some research about the jobs, its all in google.

Check out mechaps.com They are trying to build an industrial mech. However they only take volunteers and pay in shares in the company that may or may not make it. Still if I lived close by I would totally be there every waking moment working on it.

Also what mech is that in your profile pic? Its to small but it looks like battletech. As I am getting back into the game recently it is intriguing me.

I've always been fascinated with exoskeletons. Like, in Avatar the AMP suits (giant walking robots). I'm going into Mechatronics (combo of electrical, mechanical, computer and software engineering) for university. I thought it would be a good start...

only problem with the AMP
is they control it by pretending their arms and legs are the AMP's

My problem with the AMP design is the same problem I had with the matrix mechs. Why does it need a HUGE window? Or in the matrix case NO ARMOR OR WINDOW. Look at the Elementals from Battletech/Mechwarrior. Little windows close to the users face not a huge target to shoot through.

bullet proof glass and hardened armor plating are two different things. bullet proof windows don't stop large ordinance from penetrating. With a smaller closer window it could take something like an RPG hit without hurting the pilot.

yah but if the "window" is 6" away from your face it can be smaller to keep the same visability. Unlike the amps where it was like 3' away making for a big window that arrows can penetrate

Well, you know that HAL suit that the japenese have made? Its just a robot that is controlled by the electrical impulses in your skin. So, even if the suit is not attached to you you can still move it. So, all you have to do is make a bigger robot that has good balance and stuff by itself, and then use the same technology that HAL uses for us to control it. Same idea with mechs, but scale it way bigger. Hate to say it though, I dont think we'll be seeing the mechs you see in games and movie any time soon, probably not in this lifetime. My advice to you is find another potential career that is almsot the same. Work with honda and try to convince them to make ASIMO 10x bigger

I don't think I can agree with that. There is a lot of active research out there right now into this kind of technology. Will it be the next 10 years? maybe not but my lifetime I hope will be longer then that. Even if it takes 50 years. I hope I'd still be kicking then. In my opinion I think we will have the larger variety before we get the household kind that ASIMO represents. Industrial Mechs used in forestry, construction, or whatever the come up with are safer in the early years in a controlled environment like that. Household environments require to much control and safety measure.

+1. The stuff that the researchers have right now isn't too far off those mechs, i mean look at the exoskeleton, that thing could be made autonomous relatively easily and BAM, Mech!

True, they are close but haw hard are they working on it? I'm sure much more pressing issues are to be addressed first.

But I'm just being pessimistic, I hope they do build them cuz they are awesome
