searching garbage illegal?

  Ive got a question for you isn't it illegal to search in other peoples grabage is in a neighborhood. Because people through out social security numbers, credit cards etc. Ive once heard that searching though others people garbage cans is a federal law and that it is illegal.

Theres a difference between asking if you can have an old pieces of electronics they throw out and sneaking up and searching through there garbage bin during the night.

Yeah but i meant was sneaking to take them without asking. I know that asking is legal way to search in the garbage.

if you get caught looking through someones, garbage cant you be fined for trespassing?

personal garbage... yes thats iliegal, but once its in that big dumpster, it is fair game for all

I saw something about that on TV... Alot of stores here apparently have dumpsters with compressors, that have some kind of sealing system... Kind of impractical to search through...

I think you can be charge by tresspassing and searching through garbage.

If I knew it wasn't illegal, and I found a good spot that I could see was full of electrical goodies, Yeah!
