$50 Robot Microcontroller

Can someone explain to me what all the parts on the $50 robot augmented microcontroller are for? I get how to build it but I would just like to know what all the parts do so that I may add on to it.

Yes, the many tutorials on this site (and general electronics sites) should be very helpful.
Read from the ground up and experiment, that's the only way to come by the knowledge that you need to add to it.

BTW. What exactly do you mean by augmented?

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?

It might be that I just didn't see this except for the last year or so (and allways from students it seems, so I fear it's the teachers "doing it" again).

My understanding of the term "to augment" doesn't really fit in here, unless you open the chip and pour some more sand in it.

In music, augmenting is when go semi-tone up, elsewhere, it means to add to - and since you don't add to the controller, but just use it in a board...

You wouldn't talk about an augmented resistor would you?

(Just trying to understand if there's something I need to learn here, but it sounds highly illogical to me).

i tend to agree with you but most places i have seen that refer to augmented and non-augmented microcontrollers the only difference is that one is on a pcb ready to use. thats just what i've been told
