Title: Materials for Quadruped Robot

Hi guys!

I am planning to build a small-medium quadruped robot as my second creation, and I can't find any documentation online for the best materials to use for the legs. From what I understand, HDPE is the best material for a chassis. However, it is kinda flexible, so would it still be good for legs?

Second question: If I go with HDPE for everything, are cheap 9g servos strong enough? I'm gonna have a standard 12 servo setup.

This varies greatly on what tools you have to work with. One material I would suggest looking at is garolite (G-10). It is similar to carbon fiber. Here's a link to it from McMaster Carr. It comes in sheets of various thicknesses. (
If you have access to a CNC of some sorts, this would work very well.
Other alternatives would be aluminum, carbon fiber, or another plastic such as acrylic. I've frequently used acrylic in projects and have had very good results. I will be using garolite in a quadcopter I'm building (links of which can be found in my signature).
