communication between bots

Hi everyone,
               this is our first proj..my aim is to build communication between two bots using some wireless protocol..First we thought of bluetooth..but we found tat the module is costly...serial bluetooth module is costly...but we found tat usb bluetooth module is cheap..is there any way to use usb bluetooth module?are we supposed to use any converter for this?if so,pls do help.

The main chip (this is microcontroller based right?)
Budget?
Transmit range?

yes ofcourse its microcontroller based...we thought of using avr....right now am having atmega8...transmit range upto 10m is suffice for me...and regarding budget...i heard tat bluetooth usb modules are damn cheap like 500 rupees...thats why am asking can we do with it..?
