Hello I am fitting a Geo Metro with the electrical and mechanical systems to be able to be controlled via remote control.
I would like input on how I would be able to control the steering without having anything moving the steering wheel for me. I would like to bypass the rotary valve that the steering wheel shaft goes to under the hood with 12V hydraulic pumps, the only problem is I am not sure if this would be possible.
Basically the rotary valve makes pressure high / lower on a piston that moves the wheels back and forth.
So if the wheel turns a rotary valve that changes pressure on either end of a piston, in theory I should be able to just use a two way hydraulic pump.
THIS IS assuming that I can move the pistons using only hydraulic pressure and without moving the "pinion" that would normally be moved by the steering wheel.
Not sure how power steering works? Here are some links that will give you a good idea.
