This is my first tutorial, thrown together in an hour, to help a friend out. You guys might enjoy it too.
It goes over how i took batteries from an old cable modem and made them into usable 14.4V 2.2Ah packs for my SAGAR robot, at about $10 a pack.

powerful 11.1v 2200mah lipo batteries can be had for $13 on hobbyking.com :)

My Li-Ion batteries with protection boards are much safer then Li-po packs with nothing. You could short my packs, and nothing would happen. If you short a Li-Po pack, the soft cells would blow. A group in my senior design made that mistake. It was not pretty.
