You can also get a mega8 in this kit: http://www.circuitgizmos.com/products/cgsorkit1/cgsorkit1.shtml (http://www.circuitgizmos.com/products/cgsorkit1/cgsorkit1.shtml)

Check out: http://www.futurlec.com/Atmel/ATMEGA8L.shtml (http://www.futurlec.com/Atmel/ATMEGA8L.shtml)
Or from digikey: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=ATMEGA328P-PU-ND (http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=ATMEGA328P-PU-ND)
The 328 is much better than the 8 and is exact pinout for the $50 board.

Be sure to check out this option, it takes the hassle out of rounding up all the parts.

Yes that works, however the 8 is dated, to be more up to speed choose the 328 or 168. But whatever you choose, it will all work.
