Title: Does anyone know if this company is legit?
Post by: parallax on February 18, 2010, 04:22:51 PM
I stumbled on this the other day and I can't find any other information on it:

http://www.hexapod-kit.com/en/home.html (http://www.hexapod-kit.com/en/home.html)

Is this company legit? I can barely find another reference to them anywhere else but their own page (and I have spent more than a few hours trying). If anyone has any feedback on them, please let me know.

Looks like a nice find.

Please report back if you get it, I'm interested!

Glad to hear it! I trust your opinion. I just dropped $600 on at servocity, lynxmotion and sparkfun for my latest top secret (for now  ;) ) project so it is out of my reach for the moment.

However when I get myself in a position to I'll definitely be giving this little cool litlle hex a shot, and will post about how it turns out.

I don't know about this company, but I do know that Mark Denton will be releasing his micro hexapod soon. It'll be about the same price, but have MUCH higher quality servos: http://www.hexapodrobot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=180&start=230 (http://www.hexapodrobot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=180&start=230)

Thank you gallamine! I'll be sure to follow that closely. I have a soft spot for hexapods  :)

Hexapod-Kit,

I apologize if I offended you. "Legit" is short for "legitimate." I couldn't find much information about your hexapods on any other sites other than yours, so I was just asking if anyone in the community here at Society of Robots had purchased one of your products. I am very interested in them.

It almost looked to good to be true! Please, take that as a compliment.  :)

On a side note and while I have the opportunity to talk to you:
I would love to know more about the mainboard- other servo controllers on the market with comparable features are twice the size if not more, and much the pricier. Plus, it is perfectly set up for the XBee! Did you design it specifically for this hexapod? Or was is derived from another project of yours?

Sorry Parallax, I certainly missunderstood... :-\ Thanks for explanation.
The Mainboard was designed specialy for that bot, pic program is Open Source and schematics are available on hexapod-kit website.

I don't know what you are talking about, the quality of the plastic is fine. As for the price, just one part can cost $1400 USD through a plastic prototyping service. A number of those injection molded parts for $350 from a small company like this isn't too extreme. This isn't some toy manufacturer who makes millions of these parts

it looks pretty cheep to me. i don't mean to sound rude but i wouldn't really want to spend more just because something isn't mass produced.

looks like the plastic is waxy from the molding process. given how it paints up, I don't think its bad quality.
looks to be pretty well molded, and doesn't look like its been forced together.
there is also a shed load of parts and fixings. so its not that bad a price. taking everything into account.

To hexapod-kit :
c'est plutôt le n° de SIREN qu'il faudrait donner et non le Numéro URSSAF !
Bravo pour votre initiative et bonne réussite ! ;)

Hi!

To be more precise, I've got to tell you that frame is not made of plastic injected parts. It is charged epoxy resin (that's why the price must not be compared to plastic parts price ;))  due to that, production cycle time is much longer than injection, parts have to be placed in a oven for two hours... But we have very good looking parts and great mechanical rigidity, as compared to injection.
