Title: Can IR sensor take a measurement when placed at an angle?
Post by: jamespeach on March 03, 2010, 07:50:03 AM
Hi,

Can a IR sensor take a reading when it is placed at a angle of the object.

I want to measure the distance between the wall and the sensor, but the sensor is not placed front on it is at a 45 Deg. angle??

Thanks

I've seen ultrasonic sensors mounted at this angle but i don't know about ir.

Check the datasheet ;D.

Yes, an IR sensor can get a distance measurement from a wall at an angle. Most surfaces are not perfectly smooth therefore they scatter light (IR) in all directions thus the distance sensor can get a reading.
I've found that its the very smooth, shiny surfaces that the distance sensor has trouble detecting.
